1963 Dalva Golden White Colheita (bottled 2012)

Post by Alex Bridgeman »

Dalva 1963 Golden White, bottled 2012: slightly darker than the ’71GW, but only slightly. The palate slightly thicker, again with marmalade, but less complex than the ’71. JDAW, January 2013

Shown at the Dalva wine bar in Vila Nova de Gaia. Bottled 2012. Very pale, a light straw colour. Nicely developed nose showing a touch of VA and a touch of petrol. More assertive on the palate than the '71 with lots of tobacco and cedar, followed by a powerful bitter-orange marmalade. Big on the finish, with powerful bitter-sweet pineapple - very, very long! 92/100.
Top Ports in 2023: Taylor 1896 Colheita, b. 2021. A perfect Port.

2024: Niepoort 1900 Colheita, b.1971. A near perfect Port.
