1960 Dow vintage port

Post by Alex Bridgeman »

Bottle e.

The fifth of eight bottles from the single lot of unknowns bought at auction. Mature red in colour, with a hint of gold to the rim; 40% opaque. Oxidised and medicinal on the nose, with lots of rosemary. Sweet and thick entry, intensely flavoured with generous fruit on the initial impact. Modest development on the mid-palate which eventually shows some milk coffee. Very light and lacking on the initial aftertaste but does turn into a gentle and lingering apricot finish. Served blind this was guessed to be Fonseca 1960. 90/100. Drunk 23 April 2013 with a 6 hour decant.
Top Ports in 2023: Taylor 1896 Colheita, b. 2021. A perfect Port.

2024: Niepoort 1900 Colheita, b.1971. A near perfect Port.
