Brambly menthol nose, smooth, plush, round and big in the mouth - no edges here at all. As F70 should be. Super port. 94pts

Grants of St James bottling. Deep red, slight chestnut; 70% opaque. Mature nose of dried beef and meat juices. Very fragrant and very rich. Sweet fruit entry, full of dried and concentrated red fruit. Huge palate presence, absolutely massive and with a lovely thick texture. Huge levels of fruit. Big but resolved tannins, thick and unctuous; sweet and luscious. Huge aftertaste, but with lovely balance, of massive length. Just amazing port, absolutely fabulous. 98/100. Drunk 04-Jun-13. Decanted 14½ hours.

F70. Brick red, 30% opaque. Alas slightly masked by the spicy squid eaten immediately before. Won’t order that again. Anyway, big long and lovely. Mature, but is it too mature for a ’70?
