From a bottle sent to AHB by Oscar.

Fabulous. Beautiful lavendar and violets on the nose. Very intense on the palate, but everything feels in balance - huge wine but without any roughness or harshness at this stage. More savoury and mineral than some of the other 2011 offerings? Very impressive, and certainly up there in the very top tier of the vintage on the basis of what i have tried so far.

Alas, i tasted this last in the evening - far too late - and would love to revisit this with a fresher palate and less alcohol/steak/cheese inside me.

Deep magenta, narrow transparent rim. Powerful fruit nose with mint and menthol showing powerfully. Sweet fruit entry, very fruit forward. Powerful tannins on the mid-palate, which soften slowly. Great balance, great power. Huge aftertaste; big and long lasting finish driven by black chocolate. Wow, this is good! 95-97.
Top Ports in 2023: Taylor 1896 Colheita, b. 2021. A perfect Port.

2024: Niepoort 1900 Colheita, b.1971. A near perfect Port.

Qv11: full squid-ink colour. Nose had leather and smoke. Taste full of cloying dry tannins. Massive structure. Very long. This is good at peak it will be excellent, but will it reach that peak in my lifetime?
