1966 Croft

Post by jdaw1 »

Eleven regulars gathered in a crowded Bung Hole to give Mr Doty a break from Wimbledon, in the form of a 1966 horizontal. It’s a hard life.

Cr66, decanted 7pm. Brick red, 30% opaque. Nose had raisins. To taste initially mid-minus weight, some heat, and a hint of bitterness. Given time it became very silky, lovely, and of mid-weight.

This tasted massively not just of oranges, but of coarse cut orange marmalade. This dominated in the nose and in the mouth. Very nice, perhaps a port for breakfast.

(Very wet cork, soaked through when opened.) Burnt ochre in colour; 20% opaque. Rather hollow nose, a bit of mint and not much else. Sweet in the mouth, modest texture. Fairly simple and straightforward raisins and dates. Slightly sweey aftertaste of clover honey. Lingering honey finish of very firm length. 86/100.
