1994 Dow

On the first night, at about D+10, the predominant theme is jam. Big vats of jam being boiled. The nose was not at all spicy, mostly damson but in fact still a tiny bit closed. The mouth had heat, not as much fruit as might have been expected and then a butterscotch note in the finish. It felt a little thin.

Day 2, the alcohol as well as the acid were very nicely integrated in the nose of bold, chunky black fruit. This still smells extremely young. The fruit is all over it. With work in the mouth, there are soft, light tannins, integrated acidity in the finish but blackcurrant Lockets too.

This needs a good few years to become properly mature.

Food pairing suggestion: Fox's Crunch Creams.
