Decanted of virtually no sediment other than a thin brown deposit on the sides of the bottle. The label indicated that the wine was sourced from Fells; the cork was branded "Crusted Port Bottled 1984 W1066". The lead foil seal was also stamped W1066.

Brick red in colour, 60% opaque. Quite wine-like on the nose with sweet floral tones that were almost cloying. A swirl turned this into a citrus mix (which DRT described as hot rubber bands). Thickly textured, showing some concentrated orange on the early palate. Little complexity to the wine, fairly straightforward; fragrant sweet cherry and a touch of woodiness. Modest body and structure. Some gentle heat on the aftertaste, then a long finish of sweet Turkish Delight and icing sugar that is pleasantly persistent. Enjoyable. 86/100. Drunk 10-Sep-13. Decanted 4½ hours.
Top Ports in 2023: Taylor 1896 Colheita, b. 2021. A perfect Port.

2024: Niepoort 1900 Colheita, b.1971. A near perfect Port.

Crusted bottled 1984: brick red, pink at edge, 40% opaque. Nose rather burnt. Taste started rather dried out and cloying. Very sweet late. Hint of strawberry fruit. Mis-guessed to be a Mg77.

Craigavon! You're drinking port from Northern Ireland's capital of the roundabout!

DRT, how do you know what hot rubber bands smell like?

If you still have any employees from that era, a comment would be welcome, either directly to the discussion, or via me.
I will let folks know of any reply.
