The year is three parts gone and we have a vintage anniversary year uncelebrated.

How about a 1983 horizontal, maybe in late November?

I have sixteen to draw on, namely:

British Association
Calem
Cockburn
Dow
Feuerheerd
Fonseca
Gould Campbell
Graham
Kopke
Noval Nacional
Offley Boa Vista
Quarles Harris
Royal Oporto
Smith Woodhouse
Taylor
Warre

Original post: Is anyone interested in trying to stage our postponed Cálem vertical on either the 27th or 29th Nov? This would be either the day before or the day after the Berry Bros port walk. My birthday is the 23rd; it would be nice to have a get together. I can supply either 83 or 85 from my stash procured via Tom (as I suppose can many others), but if either of these dates is agreeable we can copy over what everyone pledged from the earlier Cá thread.

It would seem imperative that WS is there. If he is unable to make it I suggest we change the theme to 'Bring a Bottle, Blind'

I’m probably in, though if Cálem I’ll need to adopt or share costs.

I can make 27th, but not 29th. If a Calem vertical I will have to adopt if Wolfgang is willing and able to share.
Top Ports in 2023: Taylor 1896 Colheita, b. 2021. A perfect Port.

2024: Niepoort 1900 Colheita, b.1971. A near perfect Port.

Hi,

we can recycle the Calem vertical idea; no problem. Since I am very busy which will not change until the end of the year I cannot acertain my attendance. But the date should be the 27th of November. With regards to any further details (sharing cost, adopting etc.) about the tasting I would suggest to wait until we know how many people we will be.
E.g. I would not think we should to a vertical if we are only 6 people.

regards

Wolfgang,

I think the reality of the situation is that we will only ever manage to put together a Calem vertical if you are willing to let people adopt bottles, so it doesn't make sense to plan it on a date that you cannot commit to.

Unless anyone other than Wolfgang has miraculously collected six or more mature vintages of Calem I would suggest we park this idea until next year at a time when Wolfgang can definitely join us.

Wolfgang: when will you know whether you can join us? If you will know by early November, that is early enough. But if you won't know until the day, then we definitely need a new theme.

Sorry, hadn't intended to complicate matters. First post updated. I should have re-read the posts in Andy V's tasting thread.. Whatever comes to pass is good.

I have also updated the date, to more concretely propose the 27th. The 29th might now be used for other purposes..

I'm in.

I have Real Vinicola 1983, seven bottles of which are available for this tasting for £0. Yes, they are that good.

I don't think I have any other 1983's but happy to adopt if that is possible.

I could add Ramos Pinto 1983 to the line-up.

You should. RP83 is very good. Off the top of my head I can't remember for sure, but it was either POTN or my personal POTN at the FTLOP 1983 retrospective.

Great idea. Would love to come, date will work for me.
Pretty sure I have a Niepoort83 and Warre. Will check in the morning, if there is a spare place once the usual suspects have replied would love to bring a port loving guest.
Many thanks

OK, I suggest an admin do something with a magic wand that would bring the two threads in question into unison... 27th Nov, 83@30.

Thank you.

Tom, for the sake of convenience and me being able to bring something, perhaps you can bring a Cá83 from me?

I also have a guest (RB).
