1963 Dalva
1963 Dalva
To celebrate the Quinquagenary of AHB, he arranged a horizontal of 1963s in Wokingham at The Cantley House Hotel (evenings of Friday 11th and Saturday 12th October 2013) and The Walter Arms (lunch on Saturday 12th), and two evening Champagne tastings for our better halves. Sadly the venue was not able to accommodate all he would have liked to have invited. Diaries had been blocked since early 2012, and bottles had been gathered for most of a decade before that. A splendid weekend indeed.

Dl63. Palest of the session, straw orange-yellow. Nose of faint barley sugar. Taste very faint the hill was many many miles behind.
Re: 1963 Dalva
Very pale yellow. Wax on the nose. Drinkable but nothing to it. Probably badly stored as it shouldn't be this colour.

Colour almost gone, feeble, but perfectly drinkable.

1963 Dalva Vintage Port
A light apple juice color, not a good sign. The nose reminded me of an aged Dalva white colheita. While the palate was enjoyable with it’s smooth carmel, toffee, and citrus, it was more like an aged white colheita than a ruby port. This bottle was far past it’s best, especially compared to the others in this flight, but was still enjoyable on it’s own.

very pale in colour and watery rim; a bit gloopy treacle tart suggery, melasses golden sirup nose; thin, suggery taste; litschi fruit touch, slightly oxidised.

Pale straw in colour, 5% opaque. Plastic smelling nose, faint and unattractive. Sweet and flowery on the palate. Incredibly lightweight but surprisingly drinkable - a pale and delicate wine with a sweet icing sugar and flower-water finish. 83/100. Drunk 11-Oct-13. Decanted 6½ hours.
