1985 Churchill

Cork appeared sound, but under the lead capsule the sello was wet and the neck of the bottle sticky.

Deep red in colour, dark and brooding. Full of sweet, bruised and dirty cherry juice on the nose; very sweet and very fruity. A very faint touch of VA on the palate, which add a layer of sweetness to the cherry juice. Very sweet, lots of pear drops and just a hint of tannins remaining. Good weight on the palate, good presence. Hollow aftertaste, but a burst of heat heralds an acid backed aftertaste dominated by cherries and vaguely hinting at roasted coffee tannins. Overall, a good quality everyday quaffer. 88/100. 19-Oct-13. Decanted 1 hour.
Top Ports in 2023: Taylor 1896 Colheita, b. 2021. A perfect Port.

2024: Niepoort 1900 Colheita, b.1971. A near perfect Port.
