Wine Society 1983, decanted 12:30. Recently re-corked, perhaps to remove a cork with a Symington brand. Dark red, 90% opaque. Palate starts with lots of red fruit, then a very dry fruit sensation. But plenty of fruit in a Port that can be drunk with pleasure.

Very dark, about 85%, red. This was very lively in the nose: Christmas cake - marzipan and spiced fruits / mincemeat. A good woodiness. In the mouth, exceptionally dry, very tannic. THRA said it was winey; RLC said it was metallic. This was unusual, certainly, but very pleasant; it had a structure that is not usual in port. There was discussion about which SFE port this might be - Charles Symington suggested the following evening at the Berry Bros Port Walk that this would have been a lot that was bought by the Wine Society on release in 85, but had no idea what it might have been.

Known to be from the Symington Family Estates group. Deep red, very youthful appearance; 95% opaque. Modest volume nose, parma violets and a nice perfume. Lovely perfumed entry onto the palate. Sweet focused fruit and very lively tannins giving great support. Nice density of fruit; nice structure and presence. Slight woodiness to the aftertaste with woody raspberries on the modest volume finish, where the fragrance lasts well but is faint. Surprisingly young port, extremely fine. 90/100.
Top Ports in 2023: Taylor 1896 Colheita, b. 2021. A perfect Port.

2024: Niepoort 1900 Colheita, b.1971. A near perfect Port.
