V94. Equal darkest (equal with Dow), being dark-dark-red 90% opaque. Palate thick and gloupy, Vesuvio-style. Good port. But the texture seemed to be more fruit than structure, a slight hollowness mid-palate, which suggests that this might not be a Port that will last ages and ages. Interesting.

Had great expectations for this. Didn't quite live up to those...

85% opacity, very deep red, big legs. Nose didn't offer me much, maybe rubber. On the palate, lively from start to finish, big body...feels like something massive in here waiting to come out, heat in the middle and dark fruits. Long finish and a good balance. Was this maybe a little closed? I'm just not experienced enough yet - look forward to trying again in 5 years to see whether it develops or fades.

Smooth, big and delicious. Drinkable now but with a solid backbone that will keep it going.

24 hour decant. 85-90%, dark ruby with a narrow rim. The nose is hearty and friendly, hello I thought, you're rather charming. Entry in the mouth is light, with plum, there's some heat in the middle and at the end, with woody spices lingering.

Deep red with just a hint of maturity in the colour that is just starting to show, narrow transparent rim. Soft fruit on the nose, faint but attractive and fairly straightforward. Restrained entry, closed and subdued. Lots of fruit, lots of tannins but no balance and in desperate need of more time. Patience on the palate allows some balance to form, which eventually turns into a wonderful aftertaste, full of big peppery tannins and a great length. A port which needs at least another 5 years - lovely, and with a promise of future elegance. 91/100. 21 hour decant.
Top Ports in 2023: Taylor 1896 Colheita, b. 2021. A perfect Port.

2024: Niepoort 1900 Colheita, b.1971. A near perfect Port.
