2012 Taylor Vargellas

Post by Alex Bridgeman »

Magenta in colour, opaque but with a medium width transparent rim. Wonderful floral nose, full of lavender and blueberries. Blanced entry, smooth in texture and very elegant. Subdued fruit on the palate, but full of self-confidence and meandering lazily about. Gentle tannins are tentative under the fruit and ripe acidity steers an indolent course over the senses. Peppery finish, with lots of black peppercorns mixed in with the gentle, sweet fruit. A languid port that has self-confidence and poise and a surprising amount of elegance. 92-94 points. Tasted 14 May 2014.
Top Ports in 2023: Taylor 1896 Colheita, b. 2021. A perfect Port.

2024: Niepoort 1900 Colheita, b.1971. A near perfect Port.
