1981 Niepoort LBV
Bottled 1986. Deep rose red, 50% opaque. Nettles and crushed elaves on the nose, perhaps also some rosemary. Soft jellied fruit on the palate, with gentle tannins giving structure. Lovely mature fruit all over the mid-palate - this has a good palate presence with lots of jellied fruit. The jelly comes through on the finish, which has a good length and intensity. A fine showing, a lovely port that can be held or drunk now. 88/100. Drunk 24-Apr-14 at BFT5.
Top Ports in 2023: Taylor 1896 Colheita, b. 2021. A perfect Port.
2024: Niepoort 1900 Colheita, b.1971. A near perfect Port.

20% opaque. This was a deep ruby with light bricking. Floral but quiet. Peppered strawberries, late heat, jellied fruit, really very lovely and soft.
