Thursday 28th August 2014: One Bottler

Post by jdaw1 »

THRA has agreed to provide at a fair price, for a tasting on Thursday 28th August 2014 at The Bung Hole, five bottles bottled by the same bottler. We, that is, all but Tom, are to try to guess the bottler.

Who is game?
  1. THRA;
  2. JDAW;
  3. AHB.
Current draft of the placemats.

I'm on for this. I'll drop CMAG an email and see if he is free on Thursday night.

Bonus question for Tom: obviously we have to be bottler-blind. But should Tom sell us shippers and vintages?

Or should he tell us the shippers, tell us the vintages, but not which is paired with which, nor what with which bottle?

I say that he tells us nothing and gives us the most opportunity he can for us to make fools of ourselves.

I will be there. If necessary, I'm sure we can figure out a plan B.

Yes, can do - sorry not to chime in sooner but was tied up all yesterday with contractors cleaning the beams in my pub..

Five bottles for three people? - are we very thirsty??

Four bottles selected, all bottled by same English bottler. Three shippers, three vintages, so spotting the pair with same shipper and pair from same vintage will be part of the challenge..

Shared three ways, cost will be £110 ea. (Best price on wine-searcher would average over £200 ea.) - anyone else want to join?

Want to? Yes, very much so.
Able to? Bugger, unfortunately not (though yesterday went smoothly, for those who know my current situation).
Can I guess the Bottler too anyway and play remotely? (edit: have PM'd Tom with a guess)

I'm sure that with the benefit of modern technology we could facetime / whatsapp / skype others remotely into the offline so that they can see what we see, hear what we can hear, hear what we can smell, hear what we can taste...

Mind you, as part of the "quick Julian, text Derek and tell him it's another '27" lobby a couple of Xmases ago, I probably don't have huge amounts of room to complain... more room than some though ;)

I might be able to charm my hosts of the day into allowing me to print, if that would help us get started.

Thinking back, I think the exact quote was "No Julian, I don't think you should text Derek to know the next one is another '27, and you definitely shouldn't tell him that it's Croft and that it is superb" ;)
