1986 Graham Malvedos
Purchased ex-cellars in summer 2010. Dark red in colour, opaque and dense. Fresh cut grass and purple sage on the nose, mixed with dark and sweet brambles. On the palate this is sweet and fruity initially, then a touch of stalkiness and some firm and imposing tannins that turn into quite a chewy mouthful. The whole assembles together into a very impressive palate with several layers of flavour growing and fading. A dry dark chocolate aftertaste and then a great wave of bramble fruit once more. A very impressive port that will easily last another 20 years. Not one to hurry to drink. 92/100. Drunk 09-Sep-14. Decanted 24 hours.
Top Ports in 2023: Taylor 1896 Colheita, b. 2021. A perfect Port.
2024: Niepoort 1900 Colheita, b.1971. A near perfect Port.

Alex. Thank you for sharing that. I still remember well the event at which we 'discovered' this port. I also seem the remember that the 1987 Malvedos gave it a very good run for its money!

I agree. I bought a 6-pack of each and have a slight preference for the 1986, but I am really enjoying drinking 1 of each vintage a year. I have 4 of each left...benread wrote:Alex.
