2009 Niepoort LBV

Post by Alex Bridgeman »

Sold by the glass at Paul Ainsworth at Number 6. A lovely red colour, deliciously fruity but backed by ripe and toasted tannins. Nice finish. Went beautifully with a dish of Fallow Deer baked in hay. Drunk 24 October 2014. N/R.
Top Ports in 2023: Taylor 1896 Colheita, b. 2021. A perfect Port.

2024: Niepoort 1900 Colheita, b.1971. A near perfect Port.

Superb restaurant.
It is - a great balance between friendliness of the staff and formality of a posh restaurant, backed up by brilliant food and a chef/owner who is happy to mix with his punters. I came downstairs from the loo as we were leaving to find Mr A chatting away to Mrs B about her meal and our visit to Cornwall.

About 3 years ago for a lunch I booked their private room right by the front door for six adults, one 3 year old and two 9 month old children. What could have easily been a shambolic event with children so young actually proved to be a great lunch, and the staff there were superb, making sure we had everything we needed to keep the kids in control.
