1964 Taylor Vargellas

Post by Alex Bridgeman »

Drunk at O Paparico with Glenn Eliott in his 50th year. Brick red with evident browning but cloudy making it difficult to judge opacity. Delicious spicy nose, smelling slightly of menthol. Gentle entry, builds slowly with a nice thick texture. Spicy sweet candied cherry on the palate, slightly out of balance through a bit of a lack of acidity. Wonderful flourish from a big burst of candied maraschino cherry with nutmeg and cinnamon. Great length. 88/100. Drunk 26-Sep-14. Drunk 2 hours.
Top Ports in 2023: Taylor 1896 Colheita, b. 2021. A perfect Port.

2024: Niepoort 1900 Colheita, b.1971. A near perfect Port.

TV64. Dark dark red, 70% opaque. Palate of fruits of the forest, soft, and some heat. Slight high-toned menthol. Mid weight, mid length. Good but not great, and on downhill slope.
