1982 Niepoort

Post by Alex Bridgeman »

Drunk at Quinta de Vale d'Agodinho with Oscar and Claudia Quevedo, Luis Sottomayor and Rob Coombes. Dark red with a dark brown core, 50% opaque. A touch harsh on the nose, some fruit but not an attractive combination. Soft and very smooth in texture, full of strawberry syrup. An element of soft tannin but also a dryness to the mid-palate that detracts from the pleasaure of the wine. Heat on the aftertaste leads to a chewy finish. Overall this port has some good points but is too dry and dull to be highly recommended. 84/100. Drunk 23-Sep-14. Decant N/K.
Top Ports in 2023: Taylor 1896 Colheita, b. 2021. A perfect Port.

2024: Niepoort 1900 Colheita, b.1971. A near perfect Port.
