1977 Niepoort Garrafeira (bottled 2007)

Post by Alex Bridgeman »

Bottled 1983, decanted 2007. A rich brown /red colour, 70% opaque. Subdued on the nose, toffee and tomato and a touch of VA. Sweet and toffeed palate, huge levels of acidity balance the concentrated sweetness of the sugar-preserved fruit and golden syrup. Intense acidity cleans the finish (but burns on the aftertaste) and delivers a massive finish. The finish is incredible but the rest is mildly disappointing. 90/100. Drunk 23-Sep-14. Decanted 4 hours.
Top Ports in 2023: Taylor 1896 Colheita, b. 2021. A perfect Port.

2024: Niepoort 1900 Colheita, b.1971. A near perfect Port.

Ni77G. My notes say “Softer than before. Still long. Lots of dark fruit, and a hint of red fruit.” But five years later I don’t recall when was before.
