Dark red, with a brick red centre, 40% opaque. The nose is a little restrained but it shows sweet red jellied fruit. Sweet and soft texture on the palate, really very attractive. A youthful palate, still with some soft tannins and a subtle power wrapped in the elegance - the classic Fonseca balance. An explosion of flavour on the aftertaste that is driven by the fruit and a never-ending finish. Great port, slightly outshone at this Port Walk by the Fonseca 1985. 95/100.

Re: 1977 Fonseca
I thought this the best in show, I was drawn back and back. Layered and complete, I love that prancing quality of this, it tingled in the mouth. A perfect stage of maturity for me and it will go on for an easy twenty years. Great personality, endless length, evolving and reforming. I shan't go on but this is one I must definitely look out for.

A little quiet on the nose, I thought. Mandarins, somewhat surprisingly, then massive velvet. This was chunky without being blocky, definitely good. Not my favourite, however.

This was soft and complex and absolutely unctious and up there with the F85 on the night. Iam now beginning to understand its RP rating and have since purchased more of this!

30% opacity, red brown. Rich, evolved nose, but also something lurking behind that. Oranges, lovely mouthfeel, superbly balanced.
Re: 1977 Fonseca
quite light coloured, in the nose eucalyptus + some varnish (?), in the mouth still young (compared to the nose) and sweet, quite good, not so old as other 1977s ports I have tasted
