1970 Quarles Harris

Post by Alex Bridgeman »

Pale rose colour, 10% opaque. Lovely and mature on the nose, although less developed than the GC70 shown alongside. Mature fruit on the palate, spiced with delicious Christmas nutmeg and mace and still with plenty of vigour. Some sharpness on the aftertaste, then a big and slightly peppery finish. 91/100.

The review thread contains a list of all the ports on show at the 2014 Berry Brothers Port Walk.
Top Ports in 2023: Taylor 1896 Colheita, b. 2021. A perfect Port.

2024: Niepoort 1900 Colheita, b.1971. A near perfect Port.

Tasting like a bigger port than the Gould Campbell next to it but a less sophisticated wine. Pale and I think, fading. Nice port though.

The nose is rich, with raisins and currants, and light spice. The mouth gives spice and is very ripe, with soft plums. Late heat. This was better than the Gould Campbell alongside.

Didn't take a note on either of the GC70 or QH70. These bottles (QH70 and GC70) were at the end of the circuit, so I stood by, quality assuring them several times, also side-by-side, and concluded both were very nice equally.

not bad at all, tastes almost younger than the '77s port on show
