Please could the organiser advise on the theme, as I will have to send the bottle(s) in advance.

In the absence of a last minute flurry of voting, the theme will be "Bring a blinded bottle of port to share with Henry and friends." I am seizing executive powers and have decided to allow non-vintage ports, just in case anyone wants to bring a bottle of something special that is not vintage port.djewesbury wrote:Please could the organiser advise on the theme, as I will have to send the bottle(s) in advance.
In order to make sure that we generate a good cross section of maturity and don't end up with 12 colheitas, please drop me a PM to let me know the style of the port you plan to bring and the decade in which the grapes were harvested. If we start to get too much group-think going then I will intervene.

A clarification on the theme is required. It is "Bring a blinded bottle of mature port not from SFE or TPF to share with Henry"

This is ambiguous. Is the criterion that the brand is now not owned by one of the two biggest conglomerates, or that it was not owned when the grapes were picked?AHB wrote:not from SFE or TPF

If it is the former I will have to put my Cockburn 1873 back in the wine fridge.jdaw1 wrote:This is ambiguous. Is the criterion that the brand is now not owned by one of the two biggest conglomerates, or that it was not owned when the grapes were picked?AHB wrote:not from SFE or TPF

It is the former so please put your Cockburn 1873 away. Surely you realisedthat Henry is sick of having to drink Cockburn 1873 all day, every day.DRT wrote:If it is the former I will have to put my Cockburn 1873 back in the wine fridge.jdaw1 wrote:This is ambiguous. My blinded bottle is now in the care of the Chesterfield Bottle Whisperer (who is trying desperately to guess what it is). Is the venue for this still the Bung Hole? May I ask if it might be the Boot & Flogger?
EDIT: Just read the updated first post. Good.

Sadly my attendance has become impossible. Please remove me from the list.
Re: Mon 2nd March 2015 - Henry Shotton visits London
I am terribly sorry, but I have to give this a miss too due to work issues, too.
So please take me from the list as well please.

With a couple of people having had to drop out, there are two spaces at the table for the evening with Henry. Henry and I have been exchanging emails today and he is very much looking forward to the evening.

For the sake of full disclosure I should also mention that I have said we will cover the cost of Henry's dinner between us in exchange for him coming prepared with tales from the vinous world.

A very reasonable exchange. Hopefully Henry will be able to give us a steer on the prospects for the 2015 vintageAHB wrote:For the sake of full disclosure I should also mention that I have said we will cover the cost of Henry's dinner between us in exchange for him coming prepared with tales from the vinous world.

This seems entirely fair-just a shame one or two people are having to pull out. Very much looking forward to itDRT wrote:A very reasonable exchange. Thank you.
Twelve of us, presumably in the Red Room, so there will be enough space for placenames. Would they help Henry? If yes they’ll be in the form “Julian W.”

Yes why not. This might be an opportune moment to announce that the reciprocal membership arrangement that Henry facilitated between the Ulster Reform Club and the Oporto Lawn Tennis & Cricket Club has completed all of its trials by paper and is now official. Who wants to be my guest?

I can confirm there is no chance for me to join you, unfortunately; you can remove me from the reserve list, and my apologies to Henry, I hope I will get to catch up with you later in the year - Phil.
