Mon 19th Jan 2015, Fonseca at the Boot & Flogger

Post by jdaw1 »

On Monday 19th January 2015 we gathered in the Red Room of the Boot and Flogger to drink some Fonseca, including a bottle that had been drawn from an imperial on Saturday 17th (discussion).

A fine evening indeed, the end of which was rather hazy for me

Wine of the night was F77, followed by F70 in second place and F85 & F55 joint third.
Two bottles were blind on the night, and both proved to be F92. Derek guessed closest on one of these with F94.

This was a great mini-vertical of Fonseca (plus guests)-a shipper that must rank as my favourite, simply oozing class. Shame there was no 63 on show (which I've still to try) but once again Charles and his F77 (or more especially the F77-sorry Charles!) was in imperious form, although I was rather taken with the 92 which was more accessible than I expected. The food was done to a tee and the B&F showed itself to be a more than able substitute for TBH, both in ambiance and attentiveness. Great company to boot and the evening being topped off by a tour of the cellar and a nightcap of SW77 (if I recall rightly!). Good to see Anthony again as well.

Glad to see that I am not the only person with this ordering. I've always preferred the F77 over the F70, and conversely the T70 over the T77. It seems like general consensus is usually the other way around on both.

Sounds like a marvelous tasting!
