Post by jdaw1 »

On Monday 9th February 2015, in the Green Room at the Boot & Flogger, we tasted Port with a theme of ‘Seventies’.

Ck70 (DRT), decanted 09:30. Dark red, 60% opaque. Palate rich, dark red fruits. Some bitterness — a liquorice bitterness. Big full excellent Port.

Ck70! The best Cockburn 1970 of my life. That’s why others rank it so highly.

Great to read this note!

I bought a few cases of 70Ck last year for $40 a bottle!

Decanted 9 hrs. 30% opacity, red-brown. Lovely sweet entry, full mouthfeel, gentle tannins on the finish. Nice stuff!

DRT has a history of bringing bottles of very good Ck70.
Clearly if there is a Ck vertical, the '70 should come from DRT and the '83 from Mr. Doty.

I only have two left from that stash, both of which I am happy to reserve for that purpose.

(From DRT). Deep red, 60% opaque. Fragrant nose, but spoiled by VA. Withdrawn and truculent on entry. Spicy on the palate, with the VA flavours overlying the fruit. Hot and VA dominated aftertaste before a delicious dark chocolate and black cherry takes over for the finish. Sadly, the VA causes a dryness to the palate and finish that shouldn't be there. Served blind this was guessed to be Roeda 1978. 84/100. Decanted 9½ hours.
