2012 Calem

Post by Alex Bridgeman »

Scarlet, opaque centre but a wide transparent rim. Nice blackcurrants on the nose, tart and bitter. The bitterness runs through to the palate. The fruit is light and thin compared to the acidity and the tannins, giving a palate that is weaker than most of the 2012 vintage ports shown alongside this one. There is a woody, pine sawdust tone to the aftertaste and finish that delivers a nice chewiness. 86-88/100. Tasted 05-Mar-15.
Top Ports in 2023: Taylor 1896 Colheita, b. 2021. A perfect Port.

2024: Niepoort 1900 Colheita, b.1971. A near perfect Port.
