1965 Graham Malvedos

Post by jdaw1 »

On Tuesday 31st March 2015 we gathered in the Boot & Flogger for a tasting to say goodbye to Magnus, who is returning to Sweden. The theme was initially ‘Blind and informal’, to which DRT added some birthday 1965s.

GM65. Red-brown, 30% opaque. The best of the ’65s, the sweetest, and some fruit still showing. Grahamesque blackberries. Fuller than mid weight.

Perhaps the only one of the ’65s that showed its shipper’s character.

Wonderfully amber and dark orange in colour. Hard to resist picking up the glass simply on account of its appearance. I thought the nose initially had some fleeting volatile notes but after that initial hit i failed to detect them. Simply gorgeous port, some orange peel, soft mature fruit and well integrated spirit. Grade-A port.

I love this stuff. This is a seriously good Port from a seriously sub-standard vintage. As Julian says it shows the character of the shipper and is full, complex and delicious. A very nice Port to save for my significant birthdays.

40% opacity, orange-red-brown. Didn't write anything else, but definitely enjoyed it!

Mature red colour with a modest rose coloured rim; 30% opaque. A lovely spiced fruit nose, full of rosehip syrup. A lovely palate, smooth and thick in texture. Fragrant and floral palate, full of mature fruit. Delicious aftertaste, full and rich with a great body and richness. Great acidity keeping everything in focus. A long and wonderful finish of bitter marmalade. 90/100.
