One of four bottles purchased from Uncle Tom by Derek T in December 2007. The total cost of £180 was subsequently shared equally between Conky, KillerB, Overtired & emotional and Derek T, the last of whom takes credit for the contribution of this bottle to the line-up.

I notice that the Noval has one of those horrible plastic caps protecting the cork - decanting personnel be aware!

As this is my bottle and I am one of two members of The Deeper Underground 1966 Port Tasting Decanting Team it looks like it will be I who ends up in A&E with a penknife sticking out of the palm of my left hand at around 16:30.

Luckily, jdaw is acting as official photographer during the decanting ceremony and will be able to show you the pictures when you all turn up at 18:30 for the tasting.

I see it's been a while since you last went to A&E in London. If you arrive at A&E with a penknife in your hand at 1630 we might see you as Ian is locking up his front door having thrown us out at the end of the evening! But don't worry, we'll keep your port safe for you.

I should point out that there are in fact three people on the Deeper Underground 1966 Port Tasting Decanting Team, one of whom has a dual role as Official Photographer.

Is it not the case that the penknife issue would be completely avoided by judicious use of tongs? I know a place in Sussex that has some, and you know someone whose family lives there...

That is a perfectly respectable suggestion. I will see what fuel the Crusting Pipe uses in its kitchen and how they would feel about us using tongs.

Similar depth of colour to the Taylor - deep centre, red-brown with a paling rim. An open and inviting nose that was sweet and attractive with dried cranberries dominating over golden syrup. Golden syrup in the mouth which develops the cranberries promised on the nose and an odd tone of washing up liquid! A great aftertaste that grows and warms and reminds me of Christmas mince pies. This will last at least another 5-10 years. 6/7 on the Uncle Tom scale or 93/100. Decanted for 4 hours and drunk on 28/1/08.

This was a strange one. Most of the group were crying words like hot, harsh etc but AHB, I and some others seemed to have a different wine in our glass. I strongly suspect that some had tainted glasses. We will never know if that is true or whether the taint added to or detracted from the experience.

My TN says: "Dark. Smell of Humbugs. Lovely smooth & fruity" -Humbugs are old style boiled sweets (candy) that us Brits remember from our childhood.

AHB and I both rated this 4th out of 14.

Special thanks are due to Uncle Tom for allowing us to have this bottle from his cellar despite not being able to join us. Thank you, Tom.
