1977 Cockburn
This port has just been recognised by the IVDP as of the quality required for vintage port. A mature burnished copper colour, 20% opaque. On the nose this has mature fruit full of bruised cherries. Sweet and fruity entry with lots of dried cherry and dried orange zest. Gentle and elegant this has a fully mature palate and is medium bodied with the sweetness balanced by a clean acidity. The tannins have dropped away and are hidden from sight. A gentle tingling aftertaste leads to a chewy rose-hip finish where the tannins do show as a soft dryness in the overall finish. 88/100. 06-May-15.
