2000 Niepoort

Post by Alex Bridgeman »

Deep red, just starting to hint at maturity on the wide, transparent rim. A gentle nose of sweet and jammy strawberry fruit, attractive despite the jamminess. Satin smooth entry, smooth fruit glides over the palate still showing some youthful strawberry before the huge tannin load arrives to create a very powerful and impressive combination. A very fine palate, full of structured jammy strawberry. Great aftertaste, with lots of cracked black peppercorn and a massive mouthful of strawberry jam and hints of dark chocolate. A huge finish. 93/100. 06-May-15.

2024: Niepoort 1900 Colheita, b.1971. A near perfect Port.
