2013 Sandeman Seixo

Post by Alex Bridgeman »

From Sandeman, their second single quinta release (after the Vau 1988), this to celebrate the bicentenary of Sandeman. 13,000 bottles released, some in magnum, double magnum, methuselah (6 litre) and one 15 litre bottle. 30% of the grapes are from 100 year old vines. Deep purple in colour, sticking to the glass and staining the surface. A wonderful nose of blackberry and sweet blackcurrants offset with a nice green crushed nettle leaf. The whole nose is really pronounced and developed. Powerful acidity grips the palate and offsets the restrained and wonderfully perfumed fruit. Delicious blackcurrants, dry tannins show a firm grip. These are tannins from ripe grape skins, rounded and flavoursome. A lovely blackcurrant finish of immense length. The overall experience is of a wonderful and elegant wine. 92-94/100. 06-May-15.
