NV Sandeman 40YO Tawny (bottled 2013)

Post by Alex Bridgeman »

Bottled 2013. Chestnut brown with an olive-brown rim, 10% opaque. Gentle oxidised nose, soft and restrained nose. The flavours flow onto the palate with a honey and orange arrival spreading across the palate. Delicious, elegant and balanced with hints of tannins and less acidity than the 30 yo. Slow to deliver the whole of what is on show. The acidity is just right to offset the sweetness and allows the aftertaste to run through a whole range of orange and honey. A wonderful length. Delicious, although rather hard work due to the weight of the palate. 90/100. May 2015.
Top Ports in 2023: Taylor 1896 Colheita, b. 2021. A perfect Port.

2024: Niepoort 1900 Colheita, b.1971. A near perfect Port.
