I only learned at the weekend that it is apparently a measure equivalent to two-thirds of an imperial pint (approx. 13.3 fl. oz.). I thought that in the States you referred to a pony as 1 U.S. fl. oz.

Hmm... that's a rather small pony.

Over here it is 7.75 gallons, especially when used in reference to beer. A pony keg, to be specific. "Old Tom" sounded like a beer to me, and a brief search rewarded me with the address of its brewer.

After some more google-fu, I discovered that we also have a "pony glass" which is ~1 oz and a "pony bottle" which is typically ~7 oz. I'd never heard either term before, at least in reference to drinking. Pony bottle is also a diver's term for a small safety tank of air, which I knew about but had to be reminded of whilst searching.
