1970 Warre vintage port

Post by Alex Bridgeman »

Decanted for 12 hours and drunk on 30/1/08.

Distinctly red center, although paler than wine C. A lovely soft smokey nose bringing damsons and Victoria plums. An acidic structure but well balanced, tannins soft and well integrated with lots of damsons and some cherry. Terrific mid-palate with aniseed and plum. Very long length, just filling the mouth with Christmas cake. Excellent port. 7/7 or 92/100.
Top Ports in 2023: Taylor 1896 Colheita, b. 2021. A perfect Port.

2024: Niepoort 1900 Colheita, b.1971. A near perfect Port.

From the same bottle and served blind...

Hint of liquorice on the nose. Dark red. Very smooth cherry truffle with lots of tannin and a beautiful long finish that left the cheeks watering.

I guessed that it was Warre's 1970 straight away - but only because I brought it to the tasting

This was a superb bottle of W70 that was supplied to me by Uncle Tom. Thanks, Tom.

thanks derekt,

this was truly a great bottle, it was still young and vivid :D

it was always a plesure to drink the 70 warre,
a nice red-berry-mix with a kirsch-like-alcohol and round tannins, not to big body, but compact and nice. good length and plesand finish.

lady tsunami and i did enjoy this very much!
