1980 Warre

Post by Alex Bridgeman »

Much darker and less evolved in appearance than the Senhora da Ribeira 1998 shown alongside this bottle. Opaque at the centre with a medium rim. On the nose this has a touch of bake that adds an attractive layer of complexity and compliments the cinnamon infused white rhubarb. Smooth and initially slightly hollow on the palate but with a wonderful balance to the mid-palate that just grows and grows. Complex, with grassy tones, smoke and dried cherry fruit this is very rewarding when held on the palate for a minute or two. An amazing array of flavours carries over onto the aftertaste and the finish of slighty burnt toast. Super port. 93/100. 24-Feb-16.
Top Ports in 2023: Taylor 1896 Colheita, b. 2021. A perfect Port.

2024: Niepoort 1900 Colheita, b.1971. A near perfect Port.
