Gosh really?
These TNs:
2012
2011
2010
are (mostly) of the sort that an unimpressed person writes. With the exception of one or two in the 2011 tasting. And Mayson says that it 'disappointed', advising that it should be drunk up quickly...

My judgement is based on a lot of bottles for a tenner each. I think Mr Broadbent was nice about it too. In fairness I think it was fading when I last had it.

Do you mean a lot like an auction lot, or a lot like "I lost count"?LGTrotter wrote:My judgement is based on a lot of bottles for a tenner each. I think Mr Broadbent was nice about it too. In fairness I think it was fading when I last had it.

Completely agree. Was very, very cheap - and pleasant, and long since consumed. That being said, given roughly similar pricing now (at FRW), I think I would buy the 1994 Graham instead.LGTrotter wrote:Cos it's so tasty and cheap (or at least was tasty a few years back when I ran out of it)djewesbury wrote:Why so much Croft 82?

Re: Port for sale at auction
Does anyone have any recommendations for a reliable and good value delivery firm that I can use to transport a stash of bottles I secured at the Hartleys auction last week? Their recommendation-Mailboxes, want to charge a fee in excess of £200 (including packing)!
Incidentally, mention of the Croft 82 in the previous posts reminds me that that the hammer price for a case of 12 at Drewatts yesterday was £200-which didn't seem bad value (and less than my quoted transportation quote above!).

Try Benelux - I have used them a number of times and they are generally reasonable

Re: Port for sale at auction
Thanks for the responses-went with Benelux for a far more agreeable price (chap there was 'flabbergasted' by what mailboxes had quoted). Seems Benelux collect from most of the provincial auction houses. Interestingly, the chap there mentioned that they had seen a noticeable increase in Port traffic in recent times. Perhaps people are finally waking up!

He gives a very reasonable and fully insured service to Northern Ireland too. Do let him know that you mentioned him on the Port Forum, it can only help to inform people that they're being recommended here.idj123 wrote:Thanks for the responses-went with Benelux for a far more agreeable price (chap there was 'flabbergasted' by what mailboxes had quoted). Re: Port for sale at auction
Can I suggest that we keep in touch via email / PM on upcoming auctions? Bigwoods, Straker Chadwick, Sotheby's (only one lot I can find, 6 mags of W85) and Tennants are all coming up. I have a few odd lots at each of these in mind. Let's make sure we aren't bidding against each other.

I'm watching Bonhams. I've watched about 25 lots. Not a single bid in the room. All to commission bids. Auctioneer looks cheesed off.

I'm not actually bidding today. Just observing the prices that the VP goes for, and whether it goes in the room, online or on the book.g-man wrote:sotheby's and christies are two that I watch from the "international" auction houses

Am I getting old or do the prices at Strakers seem a bit on the high side this time around? Just before Christmas I suppose.

6 Graham 66 for 460? 12 Graham 94 for 350? Are they so bad?LGTrotter wrote:Am I getting old or do the prices at Strakers seem a bit on the high side this time around? Just before Christmas I suppose.

Re: Port for sale at auction
£80 a go for 66 Graham doesn't seem a steal to me. The 94 had VAT or duty to pay I think which again is not so far off retail/broker prices.
So what you're saying is I'm old?

Re: Port for sale at auction
The VAT was on the Vesuvio I think. Which went for £155 (+ £30ish).LGTrotter wrote:£80 a go for 66 Graham doesn't seem a steal to me. The 94 had VAT or duty to pay I think which again is not so far off retail/broker prices.

I'm old too. I just don't expect any bargains any more.
