Splendid evening; splendid Port; delight to meet Nick Oakley.

I have photographs of NO’s tasting notes. Please could somebody send me his email address.

(Note to self: people complained about labelling the extra Ports with ‘¶’ and ‘§’, though didn’t mind the dagger ‘†’ and apparently don’t mind the ‘‡’. AHB repeated his dislike of Greeks: α β γ δ ε ζ η θ ι κ λ μ ν ξ ο π ρ σ τ υ φ χ ψ ω. A preference was expressed for currencies: £ $ ¥ €, perhaps in that order.) [Edit: this quoted in the software thread, which is the correct place for discussion.]

A fine evening in very good company with very good port. No flaws in any of the bottles, and some tasty younger port thanks to Nick.

It was a pleasure to host Nick for the evening and he has emailed his thanks for an enjoyable time. Once I am back at work I will catch up with the emails he has sent me, including an offer to buy some of the wines we tasted and discussed.

I've long thought that the Noval 1978 was underappreciated and a far better port than its reputation would lead you to believe and I'm pleased to see that I have been vindicated. Clearly it's not as good as Taylor 1966 - but what is?
Top Ports in 2021: Niepoort Garrafeira 1931; Niepoort VV (1960s bottling) and Cockburn 1969 Single Harvest Tawny

Top Port in 2022 so far: the most stunning bottle of Quinta do Noval Nacional 1931. I have never drunk such a wonderful bottle of Port.
