On Thursday 21st April 2016, the night before The Big Fortified Tasting, at the Boot & Flogger, we met for a double-vertical, Dow versus Graham.

75% opacity, dark red. Some heat across the palate, dry fruit - strawberry and damsons. Heads toward a tannic finish with some heat. Quite sharp alcohol. Re-reading this note, it sounds a tad harsh, while I recall enjoying the G80. Again like the D80 I think this one will become a superstar. Buy some more.

Dark brick red, 80% opaque. A sweet red wine-gum nose that is surprisingly floral. Balanced and poised entry with red raspberry jelly offset by strong tannins. Nicely balanced on the palate and pleasantly youthful. Fruit dominates the aftertaste giving a jelly bean length of tremendous duration. A great port with power and balance. 93/100.
Top Ports in 2024: Niepoort 1900 Colheita, b.1971. A near perfect Port.

2025: Quevedo 1972 Colheita, b.2024. Just as good as Niepoort 1900!

G80. Dark dark red, 70% opaque. Palate has perfume; red fruited; mid-weight. Edge of ready.
