On Thursday 19th October 2017 a small emergency was held at the Boot & Flogger, with five attendees. The theme was ‘Mature V.P. or L.B.V.’, blind, and both types showed beautifully.

Alex M, Wolfgang, Mike, Jacques Cailloux (one of my bosses) and I met for some mature Port. It was all excellent. Maybe we were a bottle light.

I did send JDAW an email of a photo of the monkey's guess as to what people were bringing. The monkey guessed Quinta do Noval 1950.
Top Ports in 2021: Niepoort Garrafeira 1931; Niepoort VV (1960s bottling) and Cockburn 1969 Single Harvest Tawny

Top Port in 2022 so far: the most stunning bottle of Quinta do Noval Nacional 1931. I have never drunk such a wonderful bottle of Port.

I failed to understand that the photo represented the monkey’s guess.

Monkey guesses have to be a plausible effort at garnering points. Insisting on 1881 Van Zeller just isn’t monkeytastic.

A fine evening with great company - good to meet Jacques and Alex M. The theme delivered five excellent ports, and a great advertisement for storing away some LBV for the long run.
