Some of the usual suspects gathered at the White Horse in Newport, Essex for the traditional Port Forum Christmas gathering to which were brought the traditional ‘Unknown shippers and their peculiar friends’. Delights of the evening included the very fine fillet steaks, the sparkling company of Jo (pub manager), Mel (on duty for the evening) and Jane the chef.

Re: 1912 Sandeman
Deep brown, the colour of olive wood, with a green rim. Slightly harsh nose, lacking and hollow. Vigorous swirling releases a nice fresh sous bois and stewed rhubarb - sharp yet fruity. A lovely texture on entry with a surprisingly youthful mouthfeel. Full of flavour with honey and orange oil. Big and aromatic with a fruit filled palate — deep concentrated orange but with great herbal tones. A big aftertaste with masses of flavour yet full of chewy orange zest with a dry edge to the tannins. Massive length. This is an amazing port. 96/100. 21-Dec-17. Decanted 3½ hours.

Brown Amber. Rich nose, molasses. Full, rich mouthfeel and wonderful fruit on the palate. Great balance and structure.
