F48, Whitwham’s bottling. Dark red, 60% opaque. Dry, especially early palate, with menthol. Heat mid palate. Very long, with cherries in the late palate.

Deep rich copper brown colour, 70% opaque. Surprisingly closed on the nose, nothing more than a little celery salt. A lovely smooth texture on the palate, big tannins despite the bottle age and generous rich mature fruit flavours. Very powerful palate, very flavoursome with lots of dried and concentrated fruit that has a lovely intensity. A perfect balance of tannin and fruit on the aftertaste with a lingering redcurrant concentrate finish. This is very nice, big but lacks some of the finesse normally associated with mature Fonseca. 95/100. 12-Dec-18.
Top Ports in 2024: Niepoort 1900 Colheita, b.1971. A near perfect Port.

2025: Quevedo 1972 Colheita, b.2024. Just as good as Niepoort 1900!
