I have an evening in London free on the evening of Tue 21st May, two days before the Victoria Day celebration.
I plan to drink some Port that evening. Would anyone like to join me?
I've booked the Green Room at the Boot & Flogger; suggest we start at 6.00 for 6.30pm. If anyone would like a meal other than their standard food order, please say so in the next day or two.
Theme - bring a blind bottle of fortified wine to share with other Port lovers.
Attendees:
- AHB
- JDAW
- AJM
- DRT
- WPS
- GEG
Draft of
the placemats.

Top Ports in 2019: Niepoort VV (1960s bottling) and Quinta do Noval Nacional 2017
Top Ports in 2020 (so far): Croft 1945 and Niepoort VV (1960s bottling)

Hello. If a new bug might be an acceptable additional attendee, I would quite like to attend. However, most of my port is 100 miles away and I cannot access it before this event. The only port I have in town is a minor 25-year-old. I do, however, have some slightly more interesting other-fortified to hand. Let me know whether this is possible at this short notice.

We like new members. Come! (AHB, the convener of this event, has said “a blind bottle of fortified wine”, satisfied by your “more interesting other-fortified”.)
The draft of
the placemats shows that we usually identify people by their initials. Please sir or madam, what are yours, and are you right- or left-handed?

Splendid. I shall be there, with the interesting-other-fortified decanted into a suitably anonymous bottle in advance, and the original bottle also, wrapped, for the later reveal. Male. Initials GEG. Right handed. Food order (which I shall double-post to the appropriate food thread) starter: goats' cheese salad; main: sirloin 220g, cooked medium, no gratin potatoes or salad, chips, green beans with shallots; no pudding. I look forward to it.

I ignore this thread for a few moments and this happens. Yes, you would be most very welcome! Anything fortified would qualify. I thought that the theme might open things up to some other interesting wines. I am delighted that at least one person is bringing something other than Port.

Please could the provisional attendees let me know if they are still expecting to be able to attend? I want to get the food order in on Friday - although we can always adjust it nearer the time if someone is not able to make the evening.
Thanks.

Julian - I plan to bring two bottles; one of them has been from a very variable case so I will have a back-up available, if required.
Please could you update the placemats? I plan to print these on the Tuesday morning.

I had hoped beyond hope to try and attend this event at the last minute, but alas it is not to be. I hope the bottles are fine and you have a great evening.

Well just in case things change at the very last minute I have the spare placemat sheets with me.
