1977 Dow

Post by Alex Bridgeman »

I always open a bottle of Dow 1977 with some trepidation after a run of corked bottles when I opened my first case. Fortunately it’s been 5 years since my last corked one.

A lovely dark cherry red colour, around 70% opaque. Sweet and fragrant nose, red cherries and liquorice root. On the palate this is pure red liquorice, sweet yet spicy. The fruit is generous, the palate slightly on the dryer side of the Port spectrum. Sweet and fragrant red liquorice finish. Lovely ethereal Port. 93/100. Drunk 28-May-22. Decanted 2 hours.
Top Ports in 2023: Taylor 1896 Colheita, b. 2021. A perfect Port.

2024: Niepoort 1900 Colheita, b.1971. A near perfect Port.
