The most mature in appearance of the fortified wines at the tasting, a burnished copper colour which is 30% opaque. Sweet fruit on the nose, subdued and a little oxidised. Thick in texture with the fruit having dried out. Dry in tone, with an attractive bitterness on the fruit and a good finish with a pleasing interplay between the bitterness and the fruit. Served blind, this was guessed not to be Port but perhaps a South African Hanepoort - it turned out to be a low-fill botte of Taylor 1948. 91/100. Tasted 28-Dec-23.
