1961 Krohn Vintage Port. Pop and pour. Top shoulder fill with signs of recent seepage (but has just been flown to Portugal). Intensely dark red, with a distinct brick tone, 90% opaque. A nose of sweet black fruit gums and fragrant black liquorice. On the palate the impression is of liquorice and bramble jelly, yet beyond this first impression is a steely core where the acidity is almost hidden by the fruit and hints at the tannins still remaining. Fiery aftertaste, full of eucalyptus oil, but this settles very quickly to give a long black fruit gum and spearmint finish. Fabulous straight out of the bottle and bringing big hopes of a strong performance with 3-4 hours of double decanting.  92/100. 02-Mar-24. Pop and pour.
