Port acronyms

Post by jdaw1 »

This thread is to hold port acronyms. But please gather them together in sets, related somehow ideally humorously. Think of it as a game.

I’ll start.

Very good. But others note that new themes are not only allowed, but encouraged.

As promised at the Old & Odd on November 7th, 2008:
  • SABLE - Stash Accumulation Beyond Life Expectancy
This acronym comes from knitting circles and normally refers to yarn, but also seems appropriate for Port drinkers. Alex did some quick computing at the table and determined that, in order to reach SABLE, he would need to expand his cellar by about 5000 bottles. Get to it!

QPR = Queens Park Rangers, I thought. Which isn’t obviously relevant to port.

Aha! I believe that g-man's answer is most appropriate within context as I have seen it used. It seems to show up somewhat regularly here and on ftlop.com but I had never seen it explained.

To be more accurate: Q = Quality

something might be someone's definition of quality but might not be my definition of quaffability =)

ISMP

Indefinite Supply of Mature Port

At my present rate of personal consumption, (about four dozen bottles of VP p.a.) and assuming I kept it all for myself; if I drank my oldest bottle and worked forward, I would never open a bottle under fifty years of age, before running out in my 97th year!
