The Berry Brothers Vesuvio Vertical
Posted: 22:34 Sun 30 Nov 2008
On Thursday 30th October Berry's hosted a tasting of a complete vertical of the Symington vintages released from Vesuvio, presented by Charles Symington and attended by a number of familiar faces. Highlights for me were:
- the way in which the 1989 seems to be integrating the Douro bake into the flavours, leading to an ongoing improvement in this wine
- the 1994, always a star
- the 2003 is an astonishing wine
- Vesuvio is definitely a wine to hunt out in undeclared vintages; the 1995 and 1998 are particularly good
- the 2006 will be my wine for Christmas!
With time, these complete verticals will become more difficult to arrange and attend so I feel privileged to have been able to attend two such tastings. It was a very interesting evening and a good opportunity to learn more about Vesuvio and the Symington's plans for a table wine from the Estate in the relatively near future.
