Cs00, finally, at D+3 days, a TN is taken. 100% opaque, black-purple. Nose closed, with sweet lackcurrant and cedar wood. Tannic to taste, a little rough and acidic, dry, mid-weight. Another decade needed. Will be lovely.

The following day, the remnants of the decanter, dark red, 90% opaque. Nosing of a red fruit, maybe redcurrant, but in the mouth lots of blackcurrant jam. Still very youthful. Much softer and better rounded today. Needs time. Will be a fine drinking port.

NOTE THIS TN WAS FOR THE BURMESTER 1997 AND WAS ADDED TO THIS THREAD IN ERROR, BUT HAS BEEN LEFT HERE TO PROVIDE THE FOLLOWING POSTS WITH CONTEXT
Stored in a fridge for the last 4 days. Deep red in colour and opaque. Nosing nicely of sweet blackcurrants, very fragrant. Quite aggressive entry, bringing much tannin and acidity with the modest levels of fragrant fruit. Blueberries dominate the aftertaste, which leads to a red cherry and black chocolate finish. A port which will benefit greatly from at least 5 more years in the cellar, if not another 10-15 years. 85/100. Drunk 30 August 2010.

Regarding your score, I assume that was how it was drinking right then? If so, what potential do you see in it, as your score seems a bit low compared to your actual tasting note.

OK. Confession time. I got my samples mixed up and my tasting note above was actually for the Burmester 1997.

However, while it's an adequate port, it's not a classic in the making as far as I can tell. But then I'm starting to learn that port around the age of 10-15 years can be really angular and awkward and sometimes even downright unpleasant yet still be attractive and enjoyable a decade later.

This is the correct tasting note for this port:

Deep red, opaque and youthful. Subdued nose, a little blackcurrant and perhaps a touch of mint. Lovely, balanced entry bringing a terrific blend of fruit, gentle tannin and strong acidity. Fairly straightforward, with little depth or complexity but plenty of fruit. The acidity shows itself again on the afteraste, but then gentle blackcurrants dominate the long finish. Very pleasant. 87/100. Drunk 31 August 2010 after 6 days decanting.
