Quinta prepositions
Quinta prepositions
Is it reliably possible to deduce, from the name of a Quinta, which preposition (‟do”, ‟da”, ‟de”, ‟dos”, other) it would take? Is there a rule, whether or not complicated, that can be applied?

The simple answer is no. The preposition is based on the gender of the noun, and there is no guaranteed rule as to which words are male, female, and neutral.jdaw1 wrote:Is it reliably possible to deduce, from the name of a Quinta, which preposition (‟do”, ‟da”, ‟de”, ‟dos”, other) it would take? Having learned just a very small amount of Portuguese, though, I seem to have pretty good luck when guessing. I'm sure some of that is simply having seen lots of different names many times, but part of it also probably derives from having had to learn the same sort of thing in German with der, die, and das.

I believe that "das" is the only other preposition available, but I'm not 100% certain.jdaw1 wrote:Only relevant to Graham Quinta das Lages, Royal Oporto Quinta das Carvalhas, Quinta do Convento de São Pedro das Ãguias, and Quinta das Liceiras, none of which really count, so I wrapped it in to ‟other”.DRT wrote:You forgot "das".
