1970 Cockburn

Postby jdaw1 » 23:22 Tue 10 Jan 2012

In anticipation of a forthcoming Croft tasting in The Bunghole, 57 High Holborn, London WC1V 6DT, we thought that it might be a good idea for three of us to test the location. The trial run grew to six people, and was held in the larger room. Links:

Great colour - bright red with a golden hue at the edge. Slightly hot entry, which disappeared as the night progressed, with cranberry and a dry finish.

I guessed Dow 1970.

Fantastic wine, which ended up as my WOTN.

Ck70 (originally ‘JGH’): decanted 14:00. Red, 50% opaque. To taste aniseed, but 51 nor Ricard. Definitely cinquante-et-un. Lots of tannin, giving a sense of dryness.

And yes, I have conceded.

Deepish red in the middle, fading to a translucent orange which borders on invisible. A little bit of heat on the nose. Very subtle otherwise. In the mouth, some dry berries, others said cranberries but I am not sure this was an exact match. Overall dryness makes this hard work.

A fine wine but just not my preferred style.

I also guess Dow 1970.
